Nurse Judy

This is the Health Cabin for all students who have medical questions or needs.  This is our nurse, Judy Franko, who will be on duty 24/7 every day that your child is at camp.


 
 
ANY STUDENT WITH A MEDICAL NEED MUST FOLLOW THE SAME PROCEDURE. 
STATE LAW MANDATES THIS PROCEDURE.
 

1.  WHAT IS A MEDICAL NEED?

  *Any special dietary need

  *A physical condition

  *Medication (prescribed or over-the-counter)

  *Skin condition

  *Allergies or Asthma
 

2.  WHAT DUTIES DOES THE CAMP NURSE PERFORM?

  *Monitor dietary intake, consumables, and portions for special needs

  *Monitor insulin and diabetic concerns

  *Keep records of student visits to the nurse's office

  *Monitor asthmatic students and administer breathing treatments

 *Contact parents when necessary
 

3WHAT ARE THE STUDENTS EXPECTED TO DO?

  *Take personal care of contact lens needs

  *Apply sunscreen if necessary

  *Report to the nurse's office for medication on time

  *Follow any special diet they are required to follow

  *Communicate to the Group/Cabin Leader if they need to see the nurse

 *ON THE MORNING THEY ARE LEAVING FOR CAMP, TURN IN ALL COMPLETED FORMS AND    
   MEDICATION (over-the-counter or prescription) TO THE ASSIGNED TEACHER BEFORE LOADING 
   THEIR LUGGAGE IN THE PARKING LOT. *
 

4.  AS A PARENT, WHAT AM I EXPECTED TO DO?

  *Complete all mandatory medical forms (1 cover sheet and 1 medical sheet for every medication
   sent to camp (over-the-counter or prescribed)
 
  *ALL MEDICAL FORMS MUST BE FILLED OUT AND SIGNED BY A PHYSICIAN.  THIS INCLUDES OVER-
   THE-COUNTER AS WELL AS PRESCRIPTION MEDICATION.

 If you call ahead to the doctor's office, they will usually fill them out without charging you

 *MEDICATION IS TO BE SENT IN THE ORIGINAL CONTAINER

 Examples:

 Pepto-Bismol/ in the original bottle 

 Tylenol in the original bottle

 Adderal in the prescription bottle

 · SEND ONLY THE AMOUNT OF MEDICINE NEEDED FOR 2 NIGHTS AND 3 DAYS

 *Place all medicine and forms in a large clear Ziploc bags labeled with the child's name,  
  homeroom number and teacher's name (as shown below)

  *DO NOT HAVE THE DOCTOR FAX ANY INFORMATION TO THE SCHOOL NURSE
 
  *ALL COMPLETED FORMS WITH THE MEDICATION ARE TO BE GIVEN TO THE TEACHER IN CHARGE IN
   THE PARKING LOT THE DAY YOUR CHILD LEAVES FOR CAMP.  
  *DO NOT PACK MEDICATION IN THE SUITCASE
 
5. WILL THERE BE A SPECIAL MEETING FOR PARENTS TO DISCUSS THEIR CHILD'S MEDICAL
    CONCERNS?
 
    Yes. It will be held on May 8th, at 6pm, in the Middle School Library. You can come and meet 
    the Camp Directors.
