Rocks & Minerals
The students have been discovering rocks and minerals in our classroom. They have been observing, sorting, and completing numerous tests on them. After reading Everybody Needs a Rock, the students will get to design and write about their own pet rock. Growing salt crystals is another exciting hands on experience to see the shape of different crystals.
This science unit is preparing the students for their big field trip to the Carnegie Museum, where they will receive a guided tour of the Rocks and Minerals exhibit. Jeff Smith, the geode man, will also be making a special visit to the third graders. Each third grader will receive their very own geode!
