JV Baseball Team Recognized by Rotary Club

 JV Baseball Team

The Greensburg Salem JV baseball team, Coach Nick Diehl and umpire Gary Harvat were recently recognized as Paul Harris Fellows by the Rotary Club of Greensburg for their kindness during an April game.  During the Greensburg Salem vs. Southmoreland game, a Southmoreland player with Down Syndrome, Garrett, persevered until he struck the ball down the first base line, rounded the bases and slid into home plate with a little help from players and coaches from both teams, Mr. Harvat and a crowd of cheering, teary-eyed spectators.

The team was invited to a Rotary Club luncheon and recognized for their contribution to the young man’s baseball experience and honored with the distinguished Paul Harris Fellows award. Rotary Club President Caorlyn Tlumack ended the presentation sharing with the players that their impactful gesture created an experience Garrett will remember for the rest of his life.  Seeing Garrett’s excitement and pride is one the Golden Lions players will remember for the rest of theirs.
