When to Keep Your Child at Home
As a general rule, your child should stay home from school if they have:
- A fever of 100.4 degrees or higher. Your child can return to school once they have been fever-free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medications such as Tylenol or Ibuprofen.
- Vomiting/Diarrhea - Your child should remain home for 24 hours and be able to keep down liquids and solid food.
- Colds/Cough - Children can usually attend school with mild cold symptoms. Persistent coughing or constant nasal drainage that interferes with sleep and the ability to focus in school may be a reason to keep your child home to rest.
- Severe Sore Throat- especially when accompanied by a fever, headache, nausea, or body aches.
- Rash- Rashes should be evaluated by a physician and written clearance to return to school should be provided to the nurse's office.
- Any of the infectious diseases outlined in the student handbook.
